Coffee had already been popular in Arabia since the 13th century and at the beginning of the 18th century it was shipped to Venice and, from there, to the rest of the western world.

In the coffee shops of London during the 17th and 18th centuries it was said; "that a man could pick up more useful knowledge in a coffee house than by applying himself to his books for a whole month!" Coffee has become so popular that today it is consumed by more than 9 out of 10 adults across the world.
